Animal Sanctuaries / Vegan Events

Vegan Wine and Cheese Tasting Event for Precious Life

[Update: This event is sold out.] I think Seattle’s first Vegan Wine and Cheese Tasting is going to be momentous and magnificent. First, it is fundraiser for NARN (25%) and Precious Life Animal Sanctuary (75%), which is very cool. Secondly, it is going to be legit. You know what I mean – fancy wine glasses, art gallery atmosphere, prohibition era tunes, and a reason to dress up a little. If you’ve ever thought “I’d like to go to animal benefit events, but I am not much for of punk rock shows” then this is the party for you.

Tickets are only $30 and you’ll get to taste 9 different vegan wines and sample at least 8 different vegan artisan cheeses. And if you like any of the wines, you can get a full glass (with a suggested donation, of course). This is a fundraiser for a very important place in our vegan community, so bring your appetite and your wallet.

Precious Life Animal Sanctuary

Not familiar with Precious Life Animal Sanctuary (PLAS)? Let me tell you, it is truly a haven for the turkeys, donkeys, dogs, cows, sheep, and other amazing animals who call it home. Nestled in the Olympic hills just outside of Sequim, Washington it is also a place of respite and rejuvenation for people seeking to connect to animals and nature.  Sanctuaries play a special role in both rescuing animals and changing people’s minds about how we should treat them and PLAS is one of a few local places that need our continual support.

Some amazing vegan-friendly companies and chefs are donating their wares so that as much money can be raised as possible for PLAS. First and most important for a wine tasting is the wine! We will be treated to six different wines from Frey Vineyards, the first organic winery in the United States and Vegan Vine, a 100% vegan wine line made by Clos LaChance winery. There may also be some local Washington wines for us to savor.

Treeline Cheese will not only be donating their two French-style soft cheese, but also some of their brand new hard cheeses that are just being released to market this fall.

Punk Rawk Labs will be sharing some of their Macadamia and Cashew based cheeses including their smoked cashew and macadamia blend and a brand new flavor that is being release in October. It’s a secret until then!

Some of their scrumptious smoked cheddar donated by Wayfare Foods will be made into some incredible vegan cheese balls for our delight and tasting. There will also be hand made artisan cheese from local chefs, but you’ll have to come to the event to find out the details on their flavors and styles.

The Vegan Wine & Cheese tasting fundraiser is being held at Capitol Hill’s LTD Art Gallery. Known for showcasing pop art from around the world along themes ranging from Cohen Brother’s Movies to Legends of Wrestling to Classic Sci-Fi, the setting is bound to be unique. All of the art will also be for sale and the gallery owners will be present. DJ Dubonnet will be spinning pre-swing music and PLAS founders will be available to talk about the sanctuary.
