Oh yes, I did just rhyme deli with belly. What of it? I never said I was very cleaver. But the truth is, this very awesome place, Beacon Ave Sandwiches (aka Beacon Ave Deli), is hella vegan friendly! This joint originally opened by the owners of The Station was recently sold to other rad people, Paolo Escobar and Manuel Rodriguez-Castro, who happen to like vegans a lot (or maybe even one in particular).
They always have one or two vegan sammie specials. Our first trip I got the Captain Planet, which had Sun Dried Tomato Field Roast, spinach, tomatoes, avocado on a warm hoagie and KC got The Supreme, which came with Field Roast, avocado, tomatoes, jalapeno, cucumbers, lettuce, red onion, and cilantro (it was so hot and good) – plus a house-made vegan sriracha sauce and vegan cilantro lime sauce. NO JOKE. Plus the bread was the best crispy french baguette. Comes with a pickle or chips. I even heard that they might now have vegan potato salad and such.
OK. I realize not everyone lives on Beacon Hill and won’t likely go to a new neighborhood for a sandwich, but you should know that Beacon Hill has other things to offer, so get a sammie and make a day of it: the Beacon Food Forest, skate park, golf course, pubs and bars for drinking, lawn bowling club, MacPherson’s Fruit and Produce, Victrola Coffee, Cheasty green space – all accessible by Light Rail or the #36 or #60 bus lines. Plus no chains. No Starbucks. No Subway. No KFC. It really is the best.
